Google quietly rolled out one of its biggest overhauls product, Adwords Keyword Planner, which got unnoticed by users. New Keyword Planner comes with the combined functionality of existing tool, Keyword Tool and Traffic Estimator. This makes Adwords Keyword Planner a great way to plan multiple search campaigns.
While people always use Google Adwords to find search volume for keywords with ‘city name+ keywords’ modifiers, Adwords lacks in displaying some of the reasonable data regarding keywords. And with new integrated Keyword Planner, advertisers can get whole playground of keywords for local to global results.
So, what is ‘New’ in ‘New’ Keyword Planner?
Keyword Planner works like a regular keyword research but with more bells and whistle. It include following new features:
Keyword search option
Enable people to look for keywords based on dedicated services and products, landing page or product category.
Allow users in narrowing the keyword search based on criteria like monthly search volume or CPC. Users can also include or exclude keyword terms.
List view and Group view
You can view your searched keywords as a list, as in the old keyword tool, or Keyword Planner can show your searches in the grouped form based on niche relevancy.
Keyword statistics and performance estimates
It gives advantage of selecting the targeting options such as language, country and search network. Hence, it provides improved estimations on PPC results for each keyword.
PPC Campaign creation wizard
New Keyword Planner is designed to be a ‘Wizard’ for creating Adwords campaigns. Users are free to choose how they want to get the keyword, pick keywords (or keyword grouping) and add it to ‘Keyword Plan’, know budget and bid estimations for selected keywords.
Keyword Plan is more like keyword shopping cart
It stores the keywords that are selected by users during selecting stage and allow them to use it for later processing like traffic and bid estimations. This keyword shopping cart is intelligent as it avoid the export and import activity from one tool to another.
It is more seamless
The flow of new process is more seamless and smart. It remembers picked keywords from your last session. So, even if you come back a day later, you will still get your researched keywords.
Create campaign based on user-made keyword list
If users have already well-searched keywords from another tool, previous search or from own analytics, they can directly upload personalized list into Keyword Planner interface. After uploading, users can perform all the rest researching tasks like keyword estimation, organizing, filtering, etc.
New Keyword Mash-Up Capability
This new feature, not available with the old one, has ability to mash-up and multiply keyword lists. Modifying the list of your keywords related to your niche category, you can mash your list with list of all the town and city (for example) to get single combined list. Now, users can estimate on those new keywords.
You can use New Keyword Planner only if you are lucky
Users can login and check the tool tabs; they may have access to new Keyword tool. Currently, Keyword Planner is in limited beta however, Google says it will be available on more accounts soon. So users, keep your eyes peeled!
How to Use New Keyword Planner?
The new Keyword Planner supports three key features:
- Search for keywords and ad group ideas
- Enter or upload keywords to get estimates
- Multiply keyword list and get estimates
The functionality is armed by wizard-like interface that make this searching task more seamless and logical. This is how it looks:
Search for keyword and ad group ideas
This provides the list of Google-generated keywords. You can pick keywords of your choice and can add them to your account. You can even brainstorm keywords by landing page, page category or keyword itself. You can use search ideas for new campaign or expand the list for existing campaign. Suppose, if you are trying to extend your keyword list for existing campaign, you may use Keyword Planner for more specific keywords (long-tail keywords). As new keyword tool is now ‘shopping cart’, you can shop from the list of keyword and ad group ideas.
This is how you can process search for keyword and ad group ideas:
- Sign in to Adwords account
- Select Tools and Analysis green drop-down menu
- Click on ‘Keyword Planner’
- Select search for Keyword and ad group ideas
- Enter one or more of the following: words or phrases that describe your product or URL of your landing page or category that matches your product & service
- Click on ‘Get Ideas’
- Review your keywords from ‘Keyword Idea’ tab
- To add keyword to your plan click on double arrows to add an ad group or keywords ideas to your plan
- Click on ‘Get estimates and review plan’. A graph with a range of maximum cost-per-click (max CPC) bids and daily traffic estimates will appear
Enter or upload keywords
Users can do one of these things-you can enter the list of keywords that you already have manually or upload them as CSV file and get an idea about the web performance of those keywords. Hence, users can enter or upload the list of keywords and can get the estimates and volume statistics.
Following steps will assist you to enter or upload keywords:
- Enter keywords one per line or separated by commas
- Or upload your CSV file of personalized keyword list
Note: these keywords will not be added to any of your existing campaigns
- Now select ‘Get estimates’ to know the traffic estimates or estimated impressions/clicks on your targeted keywords
- You can click on ‘Get historical stats’ to get monthly search volume or competition data for your keywords
Upload File Type
CSV file is use to upload personalized keywords. CSV file is created with a spreadsheet program or text editor. File type can be exported from Adwords Editor, created using Notepad or TextEdit, or it can be created using Excel, Google spreadsheets, etc.
Multiply keywords lists
With new Keyword Planner there is no need to manually multiply keyword lists. It saves your time and automatically combines the keywords that define your keyword search.
To multiply keywords:
- Enter keywords, one per line or separated by commas in ‘List 1’ and ‘List 2’. Both must have different keywords so, that the multiplication of keyword gives logical results.
- To multiply more than two list click on ‘X’
- You can know the estimates and search volume of combined keywords
